Warning: this may be the most controversial post I have ever written. I am expecting family and friends to change the way in which they relate to me after they read what I have written, but I think it has to be said. Please, hear me out and don’t judge me too quickly.
Alright, here goes.
I don’t get the whole thing with Crocs. I have a problem with joint pain, so I am always on the look out for good shoes. After an inordinately large number of my friends and family told me that Crocs could solve back pain, joint pain, foot pain, stiffness and world hunger, I figured maybe I should give them a try.
Sure, they’re a little ugly, but honesty, that’s never factored into my decision on clothing in the past. My real hang up was the price. I couldn’t wrap my brain around molded plastic being more expensive than actual leather from an actual cow.
When I came across Crocs on sale, I went ahead and gave them a try.
Despite my misgivings, my feet were, in fact, very comfortable. The molded plastic was surprising “cushiony” on my tired feet. I thought that maybe I had been too quick to judge this seemingly impossible foot wear.
But no. After three steps across the concrete floor, I could feel that my doubts had been well grounded. While my feet were comfortable, my knees, ankles and back were telling me to step out of the molded plastic, and step back into my real shoes.
So there you have it: I don’t get Crocs. They aren’t comfortable, and if you’re not going to be comfortable, you should at least be cute, which Crocs aren’t.
I hope you can still love me through this.

I don’t know. I mean, I don’t know why anyone would defend crocs. They’re ugly. Really really ugly. (What is pleasant about an overweight woman with blonde hair and black roots in too-tight stretch-pants and a t-shirt, and how do poison green plastic shoes make this better?) And people wearing them often shuffle. Like old folks with one-size-fits-all hospital slippers on.
I certainly don’t fall in the ‘il faut soufrir pour etre belle’ camp, but crocs are a bit to trailer park for this girl.

Anyhow, I bet the cheapo knock-offs at the dollar stores are just as (un)comfortable, so why pay the stupid price they charge for those things? We all know they’re made in the same Chinese factory anyhow!
Have you tired stilettos yet? I bet you never even gave them a chance!

Seriously, try Clarks. I have major issues with my right foot, and Rob splurged for our anniversary last year and bought some for me. I wore them every day until it became too hot to wear that type of shoe. Then I spent $45 on a pair of Clarks sandals (basic black). They are all I have worn this summer.

I don’t know much about Crocs, but up here in Canada we have Dawgs and I think they are pretty similar. I agree that they are not the most attractive shoe, but I love ‘em anyways. A couple of reasons: you can wear them with bare feet or socks, you can toss them in the washer if they get muddy, the kids can wear them on the beach, in the water, or wherever and they dry in a flash, and even little kids can put them on themselves. And as for the comfort – we all wore our Dawgs all over Disney World and not one of us got blisters or sore feet. There were LOTS of kids crying because their feet hurt but we were good to go. And they were the only shoes I took along. I guess I don’t fit in with all your other friends’ comments… maybe you would love them for your daughter anyways even if you don’t like them for you! Oh, and sorry Badger – but the knock-offs are NOT the same. Been there, tried that, and regretted it…

I don’t get the hub-bub about Crocs either. I guess they are a love’em or hate’em item of footwear. I found some “Sloggers” at my garden center that I intended on using only in my garden. They weren’t nearly as clunky looking as Crocs but I found them to be very comfortable. I wear them with my capris or jeans and they are just sort of my fun, red shoes. I wouldn’t say they are the answer to world hunger or joint pain though. Maybe it all depends on how you are built or something.
