I Can Blame It On The Baby. What’s His Excuse?

Well, as I asked you pray last week about this house, I thought I’d post an update. Our offer was accepted, we are pre-approved for the longterm mortgage, and we are working on obtaining the construction loan to do the work needed. That is still a subject of prayer, as is the construction itself.

Here is the kitchen: As you can see, it has to go. What is hard to tell in the picture, is that it is a 20 x 20 room, so there’s all sorts of room for a table, and entertaining. Jonathan was standing at the back door when he took this picture which may give you some idea of depth.

The three walls you can’t see are all dark wood. We’re going to paint over them, and install a light maple cabinet. We’ll leave the brick wall brick, and install a solid surface counter that ties in the brick color. We’ll also install a light almond colored ceramic tile on the floor. All of that should lighten the room.

Here’s the other big project:

This is the pantry. The back wall you see butts up to a long closet that is mostly wasted space. We’re going to bring that wall up several feet, making the pantry smaller, and joining the back portion with the closet, making a small 2nd bath. Obviously we’ll also replace this flooring with ceramic tile, because “Oh have mercy” comes to mind when you see the age and condition of this floor.

In addition to that, the house needs new windows, and some basic maintenance, like plumbing support under the house, new hot water heater, having 2 dead trees fallen in the back yard etc.

But just in case you are wondering what even attracted us to the house in the first place, here are the den and living rooms.

I’m blaming my desire to engage in this activity on nesting. But I don’t know what Jonathan can blame it on – maybe temporary insanity from living with a crazy, nesting, hormonal pregnant woman?
