In the Future I see . . .

Well, the official school announcements have been made this morning, and I can now blog freely about our future plans.

I mentioned almost a year ago that Jonathan had embarked on an extension Master’s of Divinity program.  He has felt for at least five years that his Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Studies, while helpful, was not enough theological training.  At first he had hoped to do the required master’s level classes while continuing to teach, but it became painfully obvious that teaching full time and studying full time was a very mentally exhausting combination.  We also had our wonderful, but wholely unexpected 2nd pregnancy announce himself, making changes in employment necessary.

In the context of all of this, our pastor, Mitch, who is a wonderful friend and blessing to us, had a fateful discussion with Jonathan.  One that he has since regretted, but was obviously the hand of God.  He told Jonathan “You need to go to seminary full time.”  It was the beginning of something Jonathan hadn’t thought was possible, but last week Covenant Seminary in St. Louis, MO accepted Jonathan as a student in their Master’s of Divinity program.

There are still a few hurdles to jump before we can make this a reality, but our current plan, unless providentially hindered, is to move our family to St. Louis in July or August of this year.  Yes, that means moving an entire family roughly 700 miles with a toddler and a two month old.  That would be one of the aformentioned hurdles.

In order to achieve this, the following things need to become a reality:

  1. Jonathan must qualify for scholarships and other financial aid through the school and our presbytery,
  2. We must be able to complete some much needed maintenance on our house very quickly in order to . . .
  3. . . . put the house on the market and sell it . . .
  4. . . . for as close to our asking price as possible in order to provide for moving expenses and living expenses until Jonathan can find a job in St. Louis.

Our intent is to list our home with friends of ours who taught me everything I know about Real Estate (and bear no responsibility for anything I don’t) and gave me my first opportunity in it full time several years back.  In a market like this it’s more important than ever to trust your realtor, and we trust and love Wayne and Donna.

We covet your prayers on this.  There are a lot of things that could go wrong and make this much harder, but we’re convinced that this is the path the Lord has laid out for us.

So that’s the news.  Any questions?
